Owning a car is great, it means that you are going to find it a whole lot easier to get around and hat you will also have the freedom that simply does not come with being a non-driver. The only trouble that you can find when it comes to owning a car, is that you are going to need to make sure that it is always working the best that it can.
Of course you have MOTs and services that will look at the condition of your car and decide whether or not there needs to be any work carried out on it, but that doesn’t mean that there are not things that you can do yourself too.
To help to make sure that your car is in tip top condition, all from the comfort of your own home, let’s take a look at those tasks that you might want to have a look at each and every month.
Look at your filters
There are a number of filters in your car and each one has an important part to play. This could be the air filter, the oil filter or the fuel filter. Each one needs to be clean and clear, as this will not only help the performance of your car in aspects such as fuel economy, but it will also stop any further damage from occurring.
Replace your oil
Now, your oil might not need changing every month, this is more a 3,000 to 5,000 mile mark job, but it is still something that you need to do on a regular basis. Changing your oil not only helps to ensure that your car is properly lubricated, but, during the warm weather, it will also make sure that your oil is at the right viscosity for your car.
Install new wiper blades
Another regular task that you should carry out on your car is replacing worn wiper blades. Worn wiper blades will leave your windscreen streaky and patchy which not only looks bad, but can also be a distraction for you whilst you are driving too. It doesn’t take long to install new wiper blades and as soon as you install them you will soon start to see a difference.
Drain out your radiator
This particular task is a good idea to do before you go on a long trip as your radiator is somewhat the workhorse of your car. Especially during the Summer, when it is likely that your radiator will need to be working overtime to keep the inner workings of your car cool. In order to keep your radiator fresh, you need to drain out all the old coolant, taking with it the dirt and debris and then replace with fresh, clean coolant that is going to give it a boost.
As you can see, there are some key tasks that you should be taking a look for your car. Whether it is monthly, bi-monthly or even every few months, taking a look at these key parts of your car is going to make sure that it is running the very best that it can.
