A proper 4x4 build starts with how the vehicle will be used, because an overland tourer and a weekend trail truck need different setups. Suspension is the first upgrade for most owners, and the correct choice depends on the constant load you carry rather than the look you want, since over sprung suspension rides badly and wears bushes. Bull bars must be compatible with airbags and parking sensors, and a non-compliant bar can affect an insurance claim. Snorkels help with dust and water crossings but only matter if the intake is properly sealed. Dual battery systems need a smart isolator or a DC to DC charger, correct cable gauge and fusing, otherwise they are a fire risk and will not charge the auxiliary battery properly. Long range tanks, drawer systems, roof racks and rooftop tents all add weight, and gross vehicle mass matters legally and mechanically. Ask the fitter to weigh the build and confirm the vehicle stays within its rated mass.
