Most car batteries in South African conditions last between two and four years, and heat shortens their life more than cold does. Before replacing, insist on a proper load test, because a flat battery is often the symptom of a failing alternator or a parasitic drain that will kill the new one too. Choose a battery that matches the specification for your car, not just the size that fits. Vehicles with start-stop need an AGM or EFB battery, and fitting a standard flooded battery in their place will fail early. Many modern cars also require the new battery to be registered to the charging system with a scan tool, otherwise the alternator keeps charging as if the battery were old. Fitment is usually quick and many suppliers will come to you. Ask about the warranty period and whether it is a full replacement or a pro rata credit, keep the invoice, and confirm the old battery is taken for recycling.
